Name: Caryn Anson
Where were you born and raised? I was born in Tulsa, OK. I was raised in Tempe, AZ.
When did you begin running? I began running when I was 15. It was my junior year in high school and I joined the cross-country team. I ran cross-country my senior year as well. I’ve been running ever since.
How did you get started running? I used to go to my high school track and try to run a few laps at night. Before long I was running four or five miles in my neighborhood with a friend.
Favorite distance to run: My favorite distance to run is the half marathon. It is a challenge, but not so much work that I have to change my lifestyle to train for it.
Favorite race: It is really hard to choose my favorite race. They all have their own unique qualities. I definitely prefer smaller races. I loved the Long Beach Marathon. You can’t beat running next to the beach with a view of the Queen Mary. The fans along the streets were so friendly and encouraging. I also really liked the Pemberton 50K. I love trail running and I accomplished a goal of running the farthest I ever have in my life.
Favorite Track N Trail event this year: AZ TnT has so many great events. I would have to say the Grand Canyon crossing was my favorite event this year.
Favorite place to run: My favorite place to run is South Mountain, but my knees might say otherwise.
Favorite Quote: “Go the extra mile. It’s never crowded.”
If you could run anywhere in the world where would it be? I’ve always wanted to run in Central Park.
Other Hobbies: My other hobbies are hiking, swimming, cooking and anything to do with dogs.
Advice for new runners: I would tell new runners to find a great group of people to run with, like AZ TnT. Running with friends and encouraging each other to set and accomplish goals is a great feeling.
