Name: Kim Roer

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Bisbee, AZ. My grandfather was a miner in the Copper Queen mine. My Dad was an air traffic controller, we moved all over the place during my childhood. I have lived in mostly in Arizona, Alaska, Oklahoma, and Nevada.

When did you begin running?

How did you get started running?
I started nursing school in January of 2009, I had always been active, but I knew that my exercise time was going to be limited. I decided that I would start running to get the best cardio workouts I could with limited time.

Favorite distance to run:

Favorite race:
Phoenix Half

Favorite Track N Trail event:
Any of the hikes, anywhere. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to hike with this fun group!

Favorite place to run:
Really anywhere, trail running is my favorite, but I also like the canals.

Favorite Quote:
Tomorrow is a new day.

Favorite Song to Listen to while running:
I don’t listen to music when I run. I prefer to listen to the sounds around me, which is why I also prefer to run outside.

If you could run anywhere in the world where would it be?
Greece. I would die on the hills, but I’m sure it would be worth it!

Other Hobbies:
Coffee! Anything with my children. I love to ride my cruiser bike. Collecting Starbucks mugs. Walking on the beach. Spending time with friends.

Advice for new runners:
Start slow, don’t just go out and run like a crazy person. It is way better to NOT hurt yourself and be able to run long-term. I used to think I hated running, I was doing it wrong – it took me a while to work up to longer distances. When I didn’t feel like I was killing myself, I did better and running was actually fun and VERY therapeutic!
